How the New Marriott Mobile App made my Trip a Breeze

Anything, Anytime from Anywhere - sounds too good to be true? I thought so too until I tested out the new mobile app from Marriott Hotels over a weekend at the Marriott Surfers Paradise here in sunny Australia. Let me tell you about my experience and why I think you will love the convenience of this app as much as I did. It is very handy, especially for those stressful business trips!

When you make your booking with the hotel either via a website or by using the app, you can start making requests from the hotel with the app from 72 hours before your check in time. I found this is very convenient and I love the fact that I had the hotel 'right at my fingertips'. We are all connected all the time using our mobiles, making meeting arrangements, booking a taxi, answering some tweets and IM is now the way we communicate. I personally hate phone calls, so using this app to 'chat' with my hotel about the things I needed, was just perfect for me.

So let me show you what the app looks like.

When you log into your account, this is the home menu options available to you. You can search and book a hotel, look at your current reservations, see your requests with chat history and lastly have access to all your Marriott Rewards account details.

It is basic and easy to use - and let's be honest you don't need #anythingelse from a hotel's app.

As you access the requests option you can then start talking with your hotel that you have your booking with. You have a menu of standard requests to choose from like pillows, blankets, bath amenities, parking and housekeeping - and if that is not what you are looking for, you choose the 'anything else' option to chat with an associate.

I requested some champagne and chocolates to be in my room on my arrival as one of my first requests. YES, who doesn't love champagne on ice on arrival at their hotel - especially after a busy work week? After this I wanted to check the response time to requests in the morning on the way to the hotel.

I really wanted to see what kind of requests could be handled by the hotel staff but also what kind of waiting times I would have between chats and getting requests confirmed.

I was going to be one of those guests who asks for things outside of the normal requests - pushing the boundaries a little. For a 5 star hotel that is what we all expect right?

I can honestly say that I was very impressed by the response times and assistance with my requests. I never waited more than about 5 minutes for a response, bearing in mind that the staff is busy with other guests too - I think this is a pretty good response time.

Normal check in time was at 3PM. We were on our way in the morning and would arrive at the Marriott at 1PM in the afternoon. I started making requests from the app on the way and they were:

  1. Reserving Parking
  2. Booking snorkelling gear for the kids
  3. Checking availability and confirming early check in
  4. Booking our restaurant dinner for that evening

All my requests were answered with information and within 15 minutes everything was ready for our arrival at 1PM.

The snorkelling gear was ready for pick up and the kids loved the salt water lagoon with the tropical fish.

Views of the Marriott resort was beautiful from our room's balcony.

What I loved most about the app was that I was able to use it from anywhere. It meant that I didn't have to keep phoning the concierge or walk to reception to ask for information, room service, luggage assistance, a phone charger or how to connect to the wifi. It was easy to get a hold of staff and the app gave me the feeling of being 'personally connected' to the hotel.

Having the app literally at my fingertips made the overall experience one of less work for me and more fun.

Check in and Checkout is a breeze! No more wasting valuable travel or holiday time 🙂

Marriott Surfers Paradise was a great overall experience. The staff were friendly and helpful, the facilities were top notch and it was clear that good customer service was a top priority here. Some other highlights for me were:

misono steakhouse australia

Dinner at the award winning Misono Japanese Steakhouse was out of this world! It is not just about the food, but also about the entertainment.

The largest teppanyaki restaurant in the country Misono Japanese Steakhouse thrills you with its innovative, authentic cuisine and vibrant atmosphere.

I loved the flames, music, singing and dancing that happened around the tables - and the best part is getting your food served on your plate sizzling hot from the entertaining chef himself.

Cocktails at the new Chapter & Verse Bar and Lounge - nucleus of the Marriott Social Hub.

This is a brand new indoor/outdoor bar concept at the Marriott, and it beautifully situated as it overlooks the resort lagoon and pools.

I was impressed by the huge selection of cocktails, brandy and whiskey they had on offer. It took me about 15 minutes just to decide which cocktail I want to try first.

If you are looking to enjoy a cocktail in style and luxury on the Gold Coast, this is the place to be! #ChapterAndVerse on Facebook

Was there anything that I would say that could be improved regarding the app experience? The answer is yes - I would like to see the associate that is answering me on the app's name, this way I know who I am talking to and it just adds a bit more 'personal touch'. The app also signed me out a few times so I had to log back in, but to my understanding the app is still in beta and will be improved. Apart from these small hiccups, I thoroughly enjoyed testing out the new app - It is truly a great travel companion! *this content is sponsored but all views, opinions and content are strictly my own*
